| Our Board
Not By Bread Alone’s Board of Directors is made up of individuals who strongly believe in our cause, generously support our work and sacrificially give of their time to forward our mission. They are charged first and foremost with safe-guarding the public’s trust in our non-profit. As a governing body, the Board assumes the ultimate responsibility to oversee the affairs of the agency.
Our Board is a diverse Board made up of members from a cross section of professions, gender and backgrounds. Our Board includes members who are attorneys, CEOs of corporations, CPAs, business consultants, small business owners, school superintendents, educators, professionals and ministers.
Bernadette Johnson-Hairl was an honors graduate of Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, earning a bachelor’s degree in Accounting. In addition to completing her MBA at the Keller Graduate School of Management, She’s a certified QuickBooks training specialist. She’s also an adjunct Accounting professor at Chattahoochee Technical College.
Prior to launching By The Book Accounting, Bernadette worked for public and private organizations to increase profitability and financial accuracy. She supervised large and small accounting departments and has extensive experience in managing payables and receivables, cost accounting, corporate and individual tax preparation, and fiscal management strategies.
One of her most notable accomplishments includes spearheading the restructuring of +a county government’s accounts payable department that resulted in the diversion of a potential $8.5 million dollar loss.
Bernadette serves on the Program Committee.
Edward L. Keyton is the senior evangelist of the Church of Christ at Bouldercrest. He began his ministry with the congregation in 1989 when it was known as the Turner Road Church of Christ. Through his vision for the congregation and his leadership, the congregation has grown expeditiously over the last 20 years. He spearheaded the building of the current edifice and the acquisition of 30 acres of property. The congregation has been blessed to currently have seven elders, 12 deacons, and three assistant ministers.
Bro. Keyton’s educational background includes study at Heritage Christian University, Atlanta Christian College, Carver Bible College, and the Southeastern Theological Seminary.
He has spoken at lectureships and at gospel meetings/revivals throughout the southeast region.
Saving souls is Bro. Keyton’s primary goal. Through the teaching of God’s word, he empowers the congregation at Bouldercrest and gives them the tools and the encouragement to share the gospel with others. In addition to his ministerial duties, he teaches a class for newly baptized members as well as a survey of the bible class.
Because of Bro. Keyton’s concern for the young black male, he initiated Changed Men Changing Men, a gathering of men from all walks of life, to dialogue and to seek solutions for the plight of the black male. This successful conference was held in 2009.
Bro. Keyton and his wife, Sarah, have been married for more than 35 years. They make a powerful team as teachers of the Word. They are the parents of two adult children, and they are the proud grandparents of two granddaughters.
Landon B. Lee is the Evangelism Minister of the Church of Christ at Bouldercrest in Atlanta, Georgia. He also serves as a bible school teacher. His primary goal is to expose the gospel of Christ to the world, and his greatest achievement is having the honor and privilege to minister the gospel of Jesus Christ.
His ministry work includes several programs that fulfill the needs of people in the Atlanta area. The Feed the Hungry program offers food, clothing and toiletries to men, women and children that live on the streets of Atlanta. Hot meals are also prepared monthly at a women’s and children’s shelter. He is president and board chair of Not By Bread Alone, INC. This is a community breakfast forum that is held monthly and focuses on business, community, and the family. A newsletter, Higher Ground, is published quarterly focusing on the community and on spirituality.
In addition to his ministerial duties, he is a singer/songwriter, choral director and a play write. He is also the artistic director of a theatrical company, The Atlanta Theatrical Players. Working in the Atlanta Public School System, he has the privilege and opportunity to impact the lives of children, staff and guests of the school.
With a Bachelors of Science degree in Mathematics, he is currently pursuing a Master’s of Divinity in Professional Counseling.
He is married to a wonderful woman, Tanita Lee, and they have a 21-year-old son, Delorian.
Janice L. Mathis is Vice President of the Citizenship Education Fund (CEF), a charitable research and education organization based in Chicago. Janice directs CEF’s Southern Region office, where she is responsible for legal affairs and programs. The Citizenship Education Fund, a progressive research and education organization, specializes in equal opportunity, equitable education opportunity and corporate responsibility.
Prior to joining CEF, Janice served as General Counsel to the Rainbow PUSH Coalition and was managing partner of Thurmond, Mathis and Pickett, a general practice law firm in Athens, Georgia. Previously, Janice was Deputy Issues Director, Dukakis Bentsen Presidential Campaign, 1988 and was a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Georgia in the Departments of Transportation and Human Resources.
Janice is a graduate of the Lumpkin School of Law at the University of Georgia and holds degrees in Economics and Public Policy from Duke University, where she was an Angier Biddle Duke Scholar. While an undergraduate, she studied British Politics and History at the New College of Oxford University.
Janice is a member of the Georgia Power Diversity Advisory Committee and former member of the Coca-Cola Company’s Supplier Diversity Council.
Janice is the author of numerous articles and commentary. She hosts “Community Talk”, a public interest program of WAOK-AM in Atlanta, “Truth to Power”, a community affairs program of WXAG-AM and “Sisters-in-Law”, a community affairs program of WVEE-FM in Atlanta.
Greg Palmer is Senior Vice President of All Access Agency Insurance, an independent multi- line insurance agency based in Decatur, GA. He is responsible for the day to day operation and direction of the agency. He has been active in the insurance industry for 30 years, has worked as an agent, general agent, manager and owner of an insurance agency.
Greg is an active Toastmaster with the Knowledge Club of Marietta, GA and serves as Vice President of Education, he is active in his church and also sits on the Board of Directors for AGAPE (Georgia AGAPE is a multi-service agency motivated by a sincere desire to help those in need.)
Greg is a founding Board member working on the Executive Committee and Program Committee. He is Vice President and Treasurer for Not By Bread Alone.
Kia Palmer is a native Georgian. She attended Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn, Michigan majoring in Business Administration.
Presently, Kia is employed at the Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company in the F-22 Sustainment Divison located in Marietta, Georgia. She supports the Vice-President as a Senior Administrative Assistant.
Kia is also an actress. She has appeared in various television commercials, stage productions and recorded several radio voice-overs. In her most noted venture, Kia had the opportunity to be cast in a Robert Townsend television production entitled ”Alzheimer’s Daughters” of Playhouse 22.
Kia is an active member of the Church of Christ at Bouldercrest in Atlanta. Currently, serves on the Evangelism Committee and is a founding Not By Bread Alone board member. She utilizes her vocal talent with the Echoes of Love, Sisters With Heavenly Sound, and has had the pleasure of performing the National Anthem at the Atlanta Phillips Arena and Turner Field.
Currently, Kia resides in Marietta, Georgia with her spouse of 22 years and has one lovely daughter.
Dr. Leo Pinkett, A.C.E., L.U.T.C. is a graduate of the prestigious historical black institution, Morehouse College, where he earned an undergraduate degree in Business Administration. Immediately after graduation, he landed a position as a Special Agent with Prudential Life Insurance. As the youngest and the first African American in the company for the southeast region, he developed the company’s first fully detached agency division in the country. While continuously providing affordable financial protection to families of all nationalities, he was honored with the Presidential Citation Award for 4 consecutive years. This in turn assisted in creating strong ties with businesses and community efforts partnering together to strengthen the urban community. Moreover, this model was implemented and duplicated throughout the company nationwide. Dr. Leo Pinkett has been inducted as a life member in the Million-Dollar Round Table, which commemorate top sales agents in the life insurance profession worldwide. After completing several successful years in management and training dozens of young professionals, he ventured out to start his own insurance agency, L.P. International Marketing Group, Inc., focussing on life and annuity sales. Dr. Leo Pinkett has been committed to the industry for over 35 years and has earned advance certifications in business planning and estate planning, including the distinguish honorary doctorate degree of Humane Letters from Texas College.
Leo serves on the Executive Committee.
Dr. Robert L. Robbins, Sr. was born in Greene County, Georgia; one of twelve children born to a farm family. The pursuit of higher education degrees required matriculation at Morris Brown College, Cleveland State University, Georgia State University, Jacksonville State University, Ashwood University and Nova Southeastern University.
For the last thirty-nine years, he has been an educator with the Atlanta Public School System. Dr. Robbins spent the first eighteen years as a Band Director and Coach. The remaining twenty-one years have been spent as an Administrator. He has a diverse career which includes teaching instrumental music, coaching football, girls’ basketball and track. Previously, he served as Assistant Principal, Principal, At Risk Counselor and District Office Administrator for alternative and non-traditional schools.
Dr. Robbins’ is an education constructivist with special skills in leading school reform, transition and advancing student achievement. All in an effort to assist students and teachers become good citizens and contributors in society. He is a member of the Not By Bread Alone Executive Committee. Currently, serves as a life time member of the faith-based community. He is a member of the Christian Methodist Episcopal (CME) Church. A husband of forty years, and has two adult children.
Michael Wood is a board member on the Fund Raising Committee.
